Scuffle Goes to School

“Next, I went into Alice House, Twitch,” Scuffle continued. “It has a beautiful stained-glass window inside, showing the date it first opened. It’s the part of the school where little ones - like you - have their classrooms.” “Are there lots of interesting things to do there too?” asked Twitch. “Yes,” nodded Scuffle. “The children can play and explore and also learn to read books! Some were inside listening to their teacher read a story and others were having lots of fun outside.” “Did you find any acorns there?” asked Twitch expectantly. “No, Twitch. No acorns in the classrooms or in the outdoor play areas, but you would have loved how friendly Alice House felt! Everyone seemed busy and very happy.” Saint Martin’s School was founded by Miss Christine Tucker and Miss Zelie Bull on 24th November 1941 and 6 Alderbrook Road was purchased for use as the boarding house for the girls’ school in 1943. In 1989, the school moved to Malvern Hall in Brueton Avenue. Girls were placed in one of four houses: Cloaks, Helmets, Shields and Swords. These houses were retired when Saint Martin’s School and Solihull School merged in 2020.
