Supporters of Solihull Preparatory School’s Charity Week have raised almost £10,000 for Newlands Bishop Farm.

The annual fundraising event, which took place at the in October, saw Solihull Prep pupils and staff participate in five days of fun activities including a dog agility display, a staff dodge ball match, a book sale, a film afternoon, a talent show and a non-uniform day. A highlight was the tuck shop takeover where J4 pupils set up in the Warwick Road campus Refectory to sell breaktime treats to Senior School pupils. Throughout the week, pupils were invited to donate or make a purchase at one of the sale sessions.

Part of the Family Care Trust, Newlands Bishop Farm gives people with learning disabilities and mental health conditions the opportunity to learn work-based skills. This is provided through unique work experiences in horticulture, woodwork, gardening, horse care, catering and retail and animal husbandry.

Mark Penney, Head of Solihull Prep School, said: "Our Charity Week is a hotly anticipated event in the school calendar and, once again, with remarkable support of staff and parents, and the children's boundless energy and enthusiasm, we have raised a wonderful amount. 

“Newlands Bishop Farm, is a fantastic Solihull-based charity, and we were inspired to collect for Newlands Bishop Farm by Prep School Maintenance Operative Tony Quinney, whose daughter Leanne works at the centre.

“Ahead of Charity Week, Leanne spoke in assembly where she shared how working at the farm had benefited her social and emotional development. Later that week, members of the Prep School Council then visited the farm to understand more about the opportunities it provides members of the local community.”

Prep School Head Boy George and Head Girl Claudie, Mr Penney, Mr Jones and Tony Quinney present Newlands Bishop Farm staff with a cheque for £9,571.97.
