Chaplaincy at Solihull School

Since its foundation and throughout its long history, Solihull School has been rooted in its Christian foundation and heritage. Through our focus upon, ‘Ambition, Community and Opportunity’ we aim to nurture well-balanced individuals and we recognise that this includes spiritual well-being alongside academic and co-curricular achievement and participation. Our community works constantly to encourage kindness, care and respect for each other and the world. Encouraging a sense of awe and wonder, connection and reflection are embedded in school life, but have a particular place in the Chapel and the activities and events associated with it.

Our Chaplain works alongside colleagues and pupils to shape the spiritual life of our school. We are a diverse and vibrant community of people of many faiths and none, and this is recognised in our wide-ranging provision for pupils and supported through our wellbeing and personal development curriculum. As well as helping us celebrate and mark important moments, our Chaplain has a key role in pastoral care and works across the whole school to support pupils and staff.

The Chapel

The Chapel was opened in 1961 and is used regularly during the school week for assemblies where we gather for worship. Assemblies in Chapel are invitational in style and explore aspects of faith and how it connects to life. Most assemblies have a Christian focus, but we also explore wider themes, festivals and connections with other faiths. These assemblies are designed to be inclusive so that pupils may be present as participant or observer. As well as exploring Christian subjects, our Chapel assemblies relate to the wider themes being explored across the school. In the Prep School our Chaplain leads interactive and engaging weekly assemblies for Alice House and the Junior School.

In addition, our Chapel hosts Sunday services during term time. The details of these can be found below. We have a strong choral tradition at Solihull School and our excellent choirs and musicians regularly help lead our Chapel worship. During the year we hold some very special services including Nine Lessons and Carols, Christingle and our renowned pet service. These services are public acts of worship and all are welcome.

We are keen to support the religious and spiritual well-being of all our pupils, whatever their faith background. On the Prep School campus, we have a multi-faith prayer room which hosts our prayer space and provides a quiet environment for children to use for prayer and reflection if they wish. On the Senior School campus, we also have a well-established prayer room and a prayer space at the back of the Chapel.
