Welcome from the Head of the Prep School

At the Preparatory School our Forest School lessons involve practical hands-on activities which aim to build up pupils’ skills, abilities and confidence week by week.  All sessions are planned by the Forest School Leader; however, Forest School encourages participant-led learning.  Therefore, as the weeks progress, learners will be given more freedom to explore their own interests and thus initiate and dictate their own learning during sessions. Forest School uses natural materials to stimulate children’s imagination, creativity and investigation.

    Typical activities might include:

    • Shelter Building
    • Tool use
    • Studying wildlife and creating bug homes
    • Playing team and group games
    • Sensory activities
    • Tracking games
    • Cooking on an open fire
    • Rope and string work
    • Natural art and sculpture work
    • Woodland and traditional craft
    • Developing stories and drama and meeting imaginary characters
    • Climbing and balancing
